My favorite childhood memories were made on my grandparents' farm in Whitefield, Maine. They had 100 acres, a big beautiful barn, animals, gardens, and my family and I loved exploring every inch of it.
My grandfather and I shared gardening tips throughout his entire life, but it wasn't until I had a family and was in my home for many years that I discovered the joy of an outdoor garden - the joy of creating a space with your bare hands that provides beauty and abundance year-round. I wanted to share...... and thus, Bluestone Flowers was born.
In 2020, we had to modify a long standing family vacation with our best friends because of the pandemic. We ended up in Eastport, Maine. On this trip, we found old pier pilings, old boat moorings and boat chains on the beach, so of course I begged my friends and family to drag it all back to our rental house and drive it back home. When I got home, I wanted to incorporate it all into my garden to keep those memories for me to see everyday.
I cut the piling and used it to make a raised garden bed and I filled it with blue stones, and to this day, it still makes me smile. I've planted so many flowers in it that you can't quite see the blue stones anymore, but it's there, and I still think of it every time I walk by.
Blue Stone Flowers is a small local flower and gardening company. Our arrangements are created with homegrown flowers, second hand vessels and natural materials. Our goal is to share the love of gardening and make it more sustainable with small batch, naturally grown plants and flowers and reused arrangement and design materials.
